I examined LEGO Mindstorms' classroom application using the R.A.T. model for technology integration:
While looking into LEGO Mindstorms, I came across some resources that would be helpful in implementing this technology in classrooms. LEGO Education offers downloadable lesson plans for LEGO Mindstorms. Most of these STEM lessons are geared for 6th-12thgrades and give an approximate amount of time the lesson will take and the experience level needed to complete the lesson.
This article from WeAreTeachers.com also has some ideas for implementing LEGO Mindstorms in different ways and content areas. I thought the math uses and turret launcher were particularly interesting.

My students LOVE Legos! I recently got Lego WeDo 2.0, which is a build your own robot that you can program using the WeDo 2.0 software. One of my students in particular is a huge makerspace fan, and he frequently visits the library during his recess to make all different robots and program it.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you chose this as your technology tool! I have two boys, 4 and 7. They spend most of their time at home building Lego creations and this tool would be something they would love. I could also see my high school students using this in a maker space in the library. The idea that they could build and control their own robot is awesome!
ReplyDeleteFirst, I really like how you put the RAT model into the graphic. That makes your blog visually appealing. Second, this mad me think of two things: 1) my son would love this! He is in a robotics class at his middle school. They use Vex products, but he loves legos and would enjoy this as well. 2) I am considering starting a makerspace in my future library and this would be a cool thing to look into for that. Thanks for the lead!
